2004 AUGUSTA EXCHANGE CLUB DONATIONS
In 1923, a group of local businessmen got together and formed the Augusta Exchange Club. They started the first Augusta Exchange Club Agricultural Fair that same year and this year we are celebrating our 80th Fair. The fair is now known as the Georgia-Carolina State Fair, and is an annual event that is truly a family oriented venue. Not only do we have rides and cotton candy, but we also have one of the largest livestock shows in East Central Georgia and Western South Carolina. We have a talent show to showcase the talented youth in our area, a beauty pageant and over 3,000 exhibits which are displayed in our Community Building. It is a yearlong effort for our members to put such an event together. The proceeds from the Fair are returned to the community through donations to deserving local charities. Since 1923, The Augusta Exchange Club has given over $2 million to local charities. This year the Club will give over $80,000 in donations to charities, scholarships, and prize money to participants in the livestock exhibit, community exhibits, talent show, and beauty pageant. This year donations were given to 25 different organizations. Below is a list of the recipients of this year’s donations.
